Inner Mongolia University

Inner Mongolia University, founded in 1957, was the first comprehensive university built by the Party and government after the founding of New China in the regions where the minority nationalities exercise regional national autonomy and now is the only key national-level university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

It is situated in Hohhot - the capital of the autonomous region and a famous, historical and cultural city north of the Great Wall, and covers an area of 439,600 square meters. The university consists of 12 colleges, 2 teaching departments and 9 research institutes (or center) which are responsible for the teaching and research of 46 specialities, of which 10 are rated among the key specialities at the autonomous regional or nationwide level. Now 37 specialties are entitled to grand master's degrees and 6 specialities are entitled to grand doctorates. Thus a system of specialities and disciplines covering culture, science, engineering, economics, law and foreign languages has been shaping up.

Now all the staff members are working hard to rebuild their university in the hope that the university will rank first among the universities of the same kind in the country and some of the key disciplines will be entitled to be rated among the advanced state-level or world-level disciplines at the beginning of next century.
