Tianjin University

Tianjin University, known as Peiyang University in its early days, was founded on October 2, 1895. It was the first institution of higher learning in the history of modern Chinese education.

Peiyang University changed its name to Tianjin University in 1951 after the Hebei Institute of Technology merged into it. For more than 100 years, the university has trained more than 80 thousand senior qualified personnel for the country.

Most of them have become pillars of strength or backbones in various circles and made great contributions to the establishment and development in a variety of areas and to the cause of socialist construction.

The university is well-staffed and nestled on a greened and afforested beautiful campus with an area of 137 hectares and 780 thousand square meters of floor buildings. The two university libraries have 26 thousand square meters of floor buildings and a collection of 1.74 million volumes of books.

There are 12 schools and departments in the university, they are: School of Mechanical Engineering; School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering; School of Material Science and Engineering; School of Electronic Information; Engineering School of Architecture; School of Civil Engineering; School of Chemical Engineering and Technology; School of Electrical Engineering and Energy; School of Management; School of Sciences; School of Social Sciences and Foreign Languages; Adult Education College of Tianjin University.
