The
discovery, a century ago, of the Library Cave at the Mogao Grottoes
in Dunhuang astounded the entire world. It happened at a time when
China was in Great crisis. The ruling dynasty was in decline, and
the imperial power controlled various parts of the country. The
relics in the Library Cave did not escape the crisis. And the most
heart running chapter in China's culture history followed.
During this century, the treasures of Dunhuang have generated broad
ranging research efforts among Chinese and foreign scholars, resulting
in what is now refer to as Dunhuang Studies. Their research has
been fruitful and has increased for and of the brilliance of Chinese
civilization.
At the turn of the century, the China's History Museum presents
this exhibition to celebrate the discovery of the Library Cave and
Dunhuang Studies.
