Following is a biographical sketch of Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai:

Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, male, of Tibetan nationality, born in Litang, Sichuan province, February 1940; recognized as 11th Pagbalha Hutugtu (incarnation of living Buddha) of Qangdin Lamasery in 1942.

Served as commissioner of Qamdo Prefecture, vice-chairman of Tibetan Autonomous Region, vice-chairman of regional People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of CPPCC regional committee, and vice-president of Chinese Buddhist Association.

He was vice-chairman of Eighth NPC Standing Committee and vice-chairman of Third through Seventh CPPCC National Committees.
