Agenda for NPC Session (03/04/2001)

A preparatory meeting of the Fourth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC) held in Beijing Sunday approved an agenda for the session scheduled to open Monday. Items on the agenda are:

-- Hearing and reviewing a report by Premier Zhu Rongji on the outline of the 10th five-year plan for economic and social development, and approving the plan after examination.

-- Hearing and discussing a report on the implementation of the economic and social development plan for 2000 and a draft plan for 2001 by Zeng Peiyan, minister in charge of the State Development Planning Commission, and approving the report and draft plan following examination.

-- Hearing and discussing Financial Minister Xiang Huaicheng's report on the implementation of budgets for central and local governments in 2000 and draft central and local budgets for 2001, and approving them upon examination.

-- Hearing and discussing a report on the work of the NPC Standing Committee by Li Peng, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

-- Discussing an amendment to the Sino-Foreign Joint Venture Law.

-- Hearing and discussing a report on the work of the Supreme People's Court and another on the work of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

-- Electing new members to the NPC Standing Committee.
