Song Jian, Vice-Chairman of CPPCC National
Committee
Song, born
December, 1931 in Rongcheng, Shandong province; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) in
1947; studied at a party school and a school for training officials specializing in
industrial management in 1948 and Harbin Polytechnical University next year#,followed by
studies at Beijing Foreign Languages Institute and Moscow Bauman Engineering Institute
from 1953 to 1960.
From 1960 to
1965, served as deputy chief of Cybernetics Research Office of Institute of Mathematics
under Chinese Academy of Sciences; after 1965, became deputy director and CPC secretary of
an institute, deputy head of Production Office and vice-president of No.2 Institute of 7th
Ministry of Machine-Building Industry.
From 1981 to
1984, director and researcher of Beijing Information Cybernetics Institute; vice-minister
and chief engineer of 7th Ministry of Machine-Building Industry; vice-minister of
Astronautics Industry. Appointed minister of State Science and Technology Commission in
1985.
Since 1986,
Song Jian has been state councillor and concurrently minister of State Science and
Technology Commission.
Alternate
member of 12th CPC Central Committee and member of 13th to 15th CPC Central Committees;
has been academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and academician of Chinese Academy of
Engineering.
