Cheng Siwei, Vice-Chairman of NPC Standing Committee
Following is a biographical sketch of Cheng Siwei:
A native of Xiangxiang, Hunan Province, Cheng was
born in June 1935; and obtained MBA from University of Carifornia,
Los Angeles, USA.
Worked as technician of Shenyang Chemical Engineering
Research Institute under Ministry of Chemical Industry 1956-1958;
technician, then deputy director of Research Office of Tianjin
Chemical Engineering Research Institute under Ministry of Chemical
Industry, 1958-1973; engineer of Petrochemical Research Institute
under Ministry of Petrochemical Industry, 1973-1981; studied at
University of Carifornia, Los Angeles, 1981-1984.
Promoted to chief engineer of Scientific and Technological
Bureau of Ministry of Chemical Industry, 1984-1988; vice-president
of Scientific Research Institute and then deputy chief engineer
of Ministry of Chemical Industry, 1988-1993; vice-minister of
chemical industry and vice-chairman of China Democratic National
Construction Association (CDNCA), 1994-1996; chairman of CDNCA,
1996 to present.
Member of 7th and 8th National Committee of Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and elected
a Standing Committee member of the CPPCC National Committee at
the Fourth Session of the Eighth CPPCC National Committee.
