Changbaishan Mountain

Changbaishan Mountain Located in southeast Jilin, the Changbaishan Mountains extends continuously toward north of Chaoxian peninsula. Its main peak - 2700 meter high Baitou Mountain is the highest the peak in northeast of China. They are covered by snow for years. Because of the gray or white rocks, the mountains are called Changbaishan(ever white) Mountains. As great in shape, Mt. Changbaishan becomes the source of Songhuajiang River, Tumenjiang River and Yalujiang River and also wins title of huge mountain and continuous river.
Changbaishan Mountains were volcanoes in far ancient days. After eruption great amount of lava sprayed out form cones, crater lakes, hot springs and waterfalls. These volcanoes broke out twice in hundreds of years. Now it is sleeping and in its dormancy. Near Baitou peak, the leftover 72 pools are called Longtan pools, which are extinguished craters. The biggest one is Tianchi lake. In the primeval forests north of the lake is a big hot spring group covering over 1000 km.
Besides the endless green forests, Mt. Changbaishan is also famous for rich ginseng, marten and piles Deep in the mountain, various kinds of wild animals and bird Immense forest.
The forest is composed of three big plant belts along the altitude. Different trees take up certain area. Over thousand plants are known now. So here the plant resource is rich and of high economical value.
