BEIJING, June 4 -- Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met here Wednesday with Shamshad Akhtar, executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Yang expressed the hope that the ESCAP could actively extend assistance to developing countries, as the Asian-Pacific region boasts sound opportunities of development.
Akhtar spoke highly of China's positive role in the Asian-Pacific region, saying the ESCAP is ready to reinforce cooperation with China in sustainable development and regional interconnection, so as to benefit social and economic development in the region.
