SCO members vow to boost anti-drug cooperation

DUSHANBE, June 19 -- Counter-narcotics authorities of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states met here Thursday to explore ways to combat drug-trafficking.

During the meeting, the fifth of its kind, the delegations exchanged information and views on the undertaking, including the impact of the changing situation in Afghanistan.

Participants decided to draft an action plan for 2015 and 2016, in line with the group's 2011-2016 anti-drug strategy, and to formulate a new strategy for 2017-2021.

Founded in Shanghai in 2001, the SCO groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It has Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan as observers and Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka as dialogue partners.
