TAIPEI, June 28 -- Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief Zhang Zhijun left the island on Saturday evening after a four-day visit.

On Saturday noon, Zhang visited a school for the blind to interact with students there in the company with Taichung Mayor Jason Hu.

On Saturday morning, Zhang met with Huang Yi-cheng, head of Taiwan's fishermen's association, to exchange views on fishery cooperation.

Zhang also entrusted his subordinate Cheng Jinzhong to present a lacquer Goddess Mazu as a gift to Lugang Mazu Temple in Changhua County to keep his promise, as he was not able to visit the temple in person.

During the visit to Taiwan, Zhang reiterated that "the mainland respects the social system and lifestyle that Taiwanese people chose."

Zhang arrived at Taoyuan airport on Wednesday and then held a formal meeting with Wang Yu-chi, Taiwan's mainland affairs chief.

This was the second formal meeting between the officials in charge of cross-Strait affairs in the mainland and Taiwan. Wang visited the mainland in February.

The two sides agreed to further mutual visits, push forward follow-up agreements to the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement and continue negotiation on allowing the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation to set up offices on each other's side.

On Friday evening, the two agreed that their second meeting would be beneficial for honing a cross-Strait regular communication mechanism, and that the consensus reached will help solve further issues.

During Zhang's visit, he also exchanged views on more cross-Strait cooperation with New Taipei City mayor Eric Chu and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu.
