A craze that has swept the world, the ice bucket challenge has gone viral throughout China, which gains widening participation among Chinese citizens, and has also been raising awareness of the ALS community.

Zhu Xiaoqiang, 31, and his brother Zhu Xiaomeng, 22, from Zhumadian, are both ALS patients. They were successively diagnosed with this devastating disease at the age of eight and ten. As the condition grew worse, they gradually lost their ability in performing activities of daily living. Then they moved to Zhengzhou, with their mother, Lu Aimei, where they made a living by acting as street singers. Though they are often mistaken for frauds, Lu Aimei and her sons live a hard life with optimistic attitude.
