HO CHI MINH CITY, Sept. 30 -- Vietnam has unveiled a plan that maps out strategies to develop key industries to improve the country's production and service supply with assistance from Japan, according to local VietnamNet daily on Tuesday.

Under the framework of Vietnam-Japan cooperation from 2020 to 2030, the four industries - electronics, agricultural machinery, agro-fishery processing, and environmental industry and energy conservation - are viewed as playing a leading role in attracting foreign investments and popularizing technologies and skills in the economy.

Vietnam aims to raise the annual value of these industries by 20 percent and ensure a 35-percent minimal contribution to the nation's total industrial value by 2020.

By 2030, the country expects to become a major producer of electronics components using advanced environment-friendly technology.

Vietnam and Japan would cooperate to create an ideal environment for state and private sector investors and set up the criteria for and conduct assessments on the features of each target industry, the report quoted Nguyen Thi Tue Anh, deputy head of the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), as saying.

According to the Vietnamese Department of Processing and Trade for Agro-Forestry-Fishery Products and Salt Production, the government has launched major projects to improve legal frameworks for the agricultural machinery industry and enable farmers to produce quality goods at competitive prices. The plan aims to increase per capita GDP in agriculture from 740 U.S. dollars in 2010 to 2,000 U.S. dollars in 2020.

In fisheries, plans are mapped out to help domestic producers develop world-standard technologies and expand market research activities to make Vietnamese-processed foods more competitive in the global market.
