KABUL, Oct. 17 -- Personnel of law enforcing agencies in Afghanistan have killed and arrested four key Taliban operatives since Tuesday in the conflict-ridden country, officials said.

In the latest crackdown against insurgents, two militants including Qari Zubair, a Taliban key commander, were killed during air strike in the northern Baghlan province Thursday night, police spokesman in the province said Friday. "Acting upon intelligence report, the airpower targeted Taliban hideouts in Tangi Murch area of Borka district, Baghlan province Thursday night killing Taliban key commander Qari Zubair and his armed comrade Qari Mohammad Hassan on the spot," provincial police spokesman Ahmad Jawed Basharat told Xinhua.

Qari Zabair had served as Taliban's shadowy governor of Borka district, Basharat said, adding his killing by security forces could be a major blow to Taliban militants in Baghlan and adjoining provinces.

Qari Zubair and Hassan, also a local commander of Taliban, had been involved in subversive activities in Baghlan, Kunduz and Takhar provinces over the past couple of years, Basharat asserted.

The security forces in another breakthrough, two days earlier on Tuesday, captured two more key commanders of Haqqani network, the military wing of Taliban outfit operating in the capital city Kabul, southeast and eastern region of Afghanistan.

Spokesman of National Directorate for Security (NDS) or the country's intelligence agency, Haseeb Sediqi, said Wednesday that Anas Haqqani and Hafiz Rashid were captured on Tuesday.

Both Anas and Rashid, according to the official, had played important role in organizing terrorist attacks including organizing the deadly suicide ones to target Afghan and the NATO- led forces stationed in Afghanistan.

Taliban militants fighting the government to regain power have yet to make comment.
