BEIJING, Oct. 21 -- China looks forward to welcoming new Indonesian President Joko Widodo at next month's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
Hua Chunying's comments at a regular press briefing follow Chinese presidential envoy Yan Junqi attending Widodo's inauguration on Monday.
Yan, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, conveyed President Xi Jinping's greetings to Widodo, and exchanged views with Indonesian leaders on developing bilateral ties, said Hua.
Noting the strength and positive prospects of China-Indonesia ties, the spokeswoman said both countries had upgraded their ties to an all-round strategic partnership during Xi's visit to the country last year.
China has become Indonesia's largest trading partner, and Indonesia is the second-largest destination for Chinese investment in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Widodo was sworn in as the seventh Indonesian president on Monday, replacing Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
