A gumboot sits atop a fencepost on the site of the old town of Adaminaby as it re-emerges out of Lake Eucumbene, located 150 km (93 miles) south of the Australian capital Canberra June 5, 2007. Drowned 50 years ago for progress and the promise of water without limit, the town known as Old Adaminaby is having an odd renaissance as a looters' heaven and centrepiece of Australia's desiccating climate. As the town re-surfaces from the vanishing waters of one of the country's largest man-made lakes, souvenir hunters have arrived for the relics laid bare by the worst drought on record.

G8 reaches deal on 'substantial' emission cuts
Leaders of eight industrliazed nations meeting in Germany have agreed to pursue "substantial" cuts in greenhouse gases, Chancellor Angela Merkel said yesterday.
China adopts a series of policies to reduce greenhouse gas emission
Although China's per capita carbon dioxide emissions are less than one-third of the average level in developed countries, the Chinese government has adopted a series of measures to reduce carbon emission in recent years, Chinese President Hu Jintao saidin Heiligendamm Friday.
Greenpeace rebuilds Noah's Ark in Turkey, warns global warming
A Noah's Ark was reconstructed in model form on Turkey's highest mountain Ararat by the Greenpeace activists as a warning to the mankind to take urgent action in prevention of global warming, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Thursday.
