China cherishes its friendship with Cote d'Ivoire, and is ready to make joint efforts with it to explore new ways and new fields of mutually beneficial cooperation and boost their bilateral ties in the new century, said Chinese Foreign Minster Tang Jiaxuan Monday.

Tang made the remark while holding talks with Aboudrahamane Sangare, minister of state for foreign affairs of Cote d'Ivoire. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Tang said relations between China and Cote d'Ivoire have maintained sound and steady development since they forged diplomatic ties 18 years ago, and bilateral cooperation has been fruitful in all spheres.

In international affairs, the two nations have also supported and cooperated closely with each other, Tang said.

Tang expressed appreciation of the Cote d'Ivoire government's adherence to the One-China principle and its support for China's reunification, and expressed thanks for this.

Sangare said China's aid to Cote d'Ivoire over the past ten-odd years has contributed to the country's development, and its government and people are grateful for the help.

China has made great achievements in recent years through implementing the reform and opening-up policy, and it is playing an increasingly important role in international affairs, Sangare said.

He reiterated that Cote d'Ivoire will abide by the One-China stance.
