Macedonia Adheres to One-China Policy, Macedonian Deputy PM

Macedonia will adhere to the One-China policy and will not establish official relations or have official contact with Taiwan, visiting Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Kerstevski said Monday.

Macedonia will adhere to the One-China policy and will not establish official relations or have official contact with Taiwan, visiting Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Kerstevski said Monday.

Kerstevski was in Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese government. Chinese Foregin Minister Tang Jiaxuan met with Kerstevski Monday morning.

On bilateral relations, Tang said that relations between China and Macedonia have been progressing smoothly since the two countries normalized relations six months ago.

The Macedonian government has strictly observed the joint communiques signed by the two countries, in which Macedonia vowed to have no official relations or any official contact with Taiwan, he said, adding that China appreciates this stance.

Further development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and their peoples will be in line with the interests of both parties. China is willing to improve bilateral ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, Tang said.

Tang repeated that China supports the Macedonian government's efforts in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

China hopes and believes that all relevant sides in Macedonia will continue to implement the peace pact and properly resolve problems which occur so as to achieve national reconciliation, social stability and economic development at an early date, Tang said.

Kerstevski said that Macedonia places importance on its ties with China and is pleased to see the restoration and further growth of relations between the two countries.

Macedonia would like to make concerted efforts with China and bring friendly bilateral relations in all fields up to a new level, he added.

He also briefed Tang on the domestic situation in Macedonia.
