A large-scale trade fair organized by China and the European Union (EU) is expected be held from November 7 to 8 in 2002, sources from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) disclosed Friday in Beijing.

Hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses from 15 EU member countries including Italy, France, Germany and Britain will attend the fair, and over 500 Chinese businesses are scheduled to participate, according to CCPIT.

The fair, promoting electronic products, machinery, information technology, environmental protection, food and drinks as well as metal products, aims to build a long-term cooperative partnership between Chinese and EU businesses.

Special offices have been set up to help businesses find suitable partners. Chinese enterprises have started registering, said CCPIT.

EU has held trade fairs in Singapore, India and Malaysia since the late 1990s, all of which were quite successful, according to CCPIT.
