Hong Kong Chief Executive Shows Concerns for Elderly

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tuesday visited an 89-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man who are living alone on the Hong Kong Island, expressing his concern for the two in view of the cold spell, and brought with him scarves and food.

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tuesday visited an 89-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man who are living alone on the Hong Kong Island, expressing his concern for the two in view of the cold spell, and brought with him scarves and food.

Tung said that the government had bolstered its efforts to improve the quality of life for the elderly and was providing long- term care services to those elderly in need.

Prior to the visits, Tung toured several shops in the estate and talked to shop-keepers about their business.

Both elderly persons receive Comprehensive Social Security Assistance as well as meal delivery and enhanced home care services supported by the Social Welfare Department.

Tung first visited the man, who because of health reasons has to use an oxygen concentrator, and then visited the woman, who uses a walking aid.
