China Produces 181.83 Tons of Gold in 2001

China produced a record 181.83 tons of gold in 2001, up 6.83 tons year on year. Cheng Fumin, general manager of the China National Gold Corporation, said on Thursday that China's gold industry realized 21.26 billion yuan (about 2.56 billion U.S.dollars) of total output value in 2001, up 2.11 percent over the previous year.

Cheng Fumin, general manager of the China National Gold Corporation, said on Thursday that China's gold industry realized 21.26 billion yuan (about 2.56 billion U.S.dollars) of total output value in 2001, up 2.11 percent over the previous year.

China Gold Association (CGA) was set up last year, and was considered an important step for the nation to observe gold marketrules after having exercised central government control on the precious metal for decades.

Cheng also noted that this year China's gold industry will try to produce 180 tons of gold, and score a profit of 1.2 billion yuan (about 145 million U.S. dollars).
