Li Peng Meets Mubarak

China's National People's Congress (NPC) is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the People's Assembly of Egypt, Chinese top lawmaker Li Peng said Thursday when meeting with visiting President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Peng on bilateral relations
China's National People's Congress (NPC) is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the People's Assembly of Egypt, Chinese top lawmaker Li Peng said Thursday.

Li, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, made the remark when meeting with visiting President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak at the Great Hall of the People.

He said that exchanges and cooperation between the two parliaments will promote the constant development of bilateral relations in all areas.

Li said that China is always concerned with the Middle East situation and supports the peace process in that region.

China is willing to continue its efforts, through consultations with Egypt and together with the international community, for the early resumption of peace talks and early realization of peace in the Middle East, Li pledged.

Mubarak on anti-terrorism issue
Mubarak agreed to Li's remarks on bilateral ties, and said that the Middle East situations are worrisome.

The roots of terrorism will never cease to exist as long as the Palestine issue remains unsolved, and only on the premise that truth and justice prevail can the roots of terrorism be resolved, Mubarak said.

He called for Israel to stop its occupation of Palestinian territory and resume the peace process as soon as possible.

He also called for all peace-loving nations to join the efforts for a fair and just settlement of the Middle East issue.



China and Egypt Relations


  • Political Exchanges

    China and Egypt established diplomatic relations on May 30,1956. And the relationship between the two countries has been developing very smoothly.


  • Economic Cooperations

    The two sides have signed several agreements concerning trade, investment protection, avoidance of double taxation, etc., and a joint committee on trade and economic cooperation has had three meetings. Besides, the two countries have cooperated for mutual benefits in the fields like economic technology, labor contracting, etc. China has built many projects such as Cairo International Conference Center for Egypt.


  • Cultural Exchanges

    China and Egypt signed an official agreement on cultural cooperation in 1956.Now six implementation plans of cultural exchanges have been signed. China has attended almost every Cairo International Book Exhibition and International Movie Festival. On Dec.1995,China signed with Egypt a memorandum of understanding on the two countries' educational cooperation. Since 1972,China has sent sports coaches to Egypt.

    Mubarak Envisages Promising Egyptian-Chinese Ties

    Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has praised a time-honored friendship and fruitful cooperation between Egypt and China, and envisaged promising bilateral ties. "As I stressed before, the Egyptian people and I firmly support China's territorial integrity and the unity of the Chinese nation. "

    Recalling his first visit to China as Egyptian vice president in 1976, he said that during the visit, Chinese late Chairman Mao Zedong met with him, adding that since then, friendship and cooperation between the two countries have been developing increasingly and he has established a deep friendship with Chinese leaders.
