Beijing to Boost Development of 'Silicon Valley'

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi announced at the Fifth Session of the 11th Beijing Municipal People's Congress that the construction of the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park will be speeded up over the next three years.

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi announced at the Fifth Session of the 11th Beijing Municipal People's Congress that the construction of the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park will be speeded up over the next three years.

In infrastructure, the government will build seven roads, construct its sewage disposal centers more rapidly and expand the zone's lawns by 3 million square meters.

Work on the 200,000 square meter software park is to be completed this year. The second phase of four science centers willalso be started.

The world's 500 top transnational groups, famous IT companies and risk investment firms are welcome to invest in the zone in variety of ways, Liu said.

Zhongguancun, known as Chin'a Silicon Valley, is located in the Haidian District in western Beijing. It is home to 8,224 high-techbusinesses and the hub of China's computer and information industry.
