Beijing Marks Anniversary of Jiang Zemin's Proposals on Reunification

A forum was held Tuesday in Beijing to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the issuance of the Eight-Point Proposals on Peaceful Reunification by President Jiang. Deputy secretary of Beijing urged all local governments at various levels in Beijing to make further efforts to promote cooperation with Taiwan.

A forum was held Tuesday in Beijing to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the issuance of the Eight-Point Proposals on Peaceful Reunification of the Motherland by Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Representatives of Taiwan compatriots, industrial and commercial federations, non-Communist parties and other civic organizations in Beijing attended the forum.

They spoke highly of the proposals, saying reviewing them is very helpful to various groups in Beijing and helped them improve their handling of Taiwan-related affairs.

Long Xinmin, deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said Beijing has made significant achievements in dealing with Taiwan-related affairs guided by the proposals.

Long urged all local governments at various levels in Beijing to make further efforts to promote cooperation with Taiwan.



Seventh Anniversary of Eight-Point Reunification Proposal Marked

China called on the Taiwan authorities Thursday to show courage in facing reality, and take earnest and positive steps to recognize the "1992 consensus" for the sake of the stability and development of the island.

Vice-Premier reiterated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China must not be separated, which is the common ground for both sides to adhere to the One China principle.Full Text

Editorial Urges Taiwan Authorities to Grasp Opportunity of Reopening Dialogues

People's Daily makes the appeal in an editorial published Friday, marking the seventh anniversary of Chinese President JiangZemin's eight-point proposal for developing cross-Straits relations and promoting the reunification of the motherland.

It urges the leader of the Taiwan authorities not to misjudge the situation and let the opportunity of reopening cross-Straits dialogues slip by. Full Text
