"A Better City, A Better Life"

Shanghai streets are adorned with banners proclaiming "A Better City, A Better Life" -- the theme the city has chosen for its bid for the World Exposition 2010.

It is believed that it is the first time the World Exposition will have the "city" as its theme if Shanghai wins the bid.

The working group for the bid for the exposition told the media Tuesday that Shanghai, the largest city in China and one of the leading cities in Asia will provide an opportunity during the exposition to review the process of urbanization, to demonstrate and exchange new ideas and technologies in city development.

New theme praised by BIE

Zhu Linchu, an official from the Shanghai Municipal Government believes that the theme "A Better City, A Better Life", could include topics such as the merging of urban cultures, booming new economy in cities, innovation in city technology, and urban migration, which involve economy, culture, technology, residency, communications, environment protection and living.

Zhu noted that the proposed World Exposition theme has received high praise from the Bureau of International Expositions(BIE).
