MOFTEC, HK to Negotiate Closer Trade Ties
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will hold the second round of high- level negotiations on closer economic and trade relations between the mainland and Hong Kong.
This was announced during a meeting between MOFTEC minister Shi Guangsheng and Tung Chee Hwa, the HKSAR Chief Executive, Tuesday afternoon in Beijing.
The negotiations will be held in Hong Kong at the end of March. The first negotiations took place in Beijing in late January this year when the Hong Kong Financial Secretary Anthony Leung Kam- Chung visited Beijing.
Shi congratulated Tung on his re-election as Chief Executive. They discussed the current world economy, the economic and trade exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong.
Shi said that MOFTEC is actively pushing negotiations on closer trade between the inland areas and Hong Kong. Tung said he appreciated what MOFTEC has done and expressed his confidence in the negotiations and their positive impact on the economic transition in Hong Kong and its further development.
