Nearly 60 wives of the military attaches from 38 countries visited Beijing Children's Welfare Institute Wednesday morning, celebrating international women's day with physically and mentally retarded children.
During their visit, the wives studied the Institute's program for training, medical treatment, and rehabilitation, and watched performances by the children. They also donated money, books and toys to the welfare institute.
Michellle L. Blake, wife of the military attache of the South African Embassy in China, said that it is appropriate to celebrate women's day with the children. Caring for children, the traditional role of women, has never changed, whatever the woman's background.
She expressed her willingness to do what she can to support the children's welfare cause in China.
Wang Chenguang, president of the Beijing Children's Welfare Institute, said he hopes that all governments will continue to help develop the cause of the welfare of China's children.
