China Opposed to US Allowing Taiwan Presence at Military Meeting

The Chinese government Thursday expressed strong opposition to the United States allowing Taiwan to send a representative to a military conference to be held in Florida this weekend.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said that the U.S. decision will send another wrong signal to the separatist force in Taiwan and will cause damage to both the Sino-U.S. relations and the relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits.

The Chinese government Thursday expressed strong opposition to the United States allowing Taiwan to send a representative to a military conference to be held in Florida this weekend.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said at a regular press conference that China has lodged serious representations to the US, pointing out that the US decision to allow the so-called "Taiwan Defense Minister" to go to US to attend the conference is an open violation of the "One China" policy and the three joint Sino-U.S. communiques.

Kong said that the U.S. decision will send another wrong signal to the separatist force in Taiwan and will cause damage to both the Sino-U.S. relations and the relations between the two sides ofthe Taiwan Straits.

The Chinese side has urged the U.S. side many times to abide by the "One China" policy and the three joint Sino-U.S. communiques and to correct its mistakes and stop official and military exchanges with Taiwan, in order to maintain healthy Sino-U.S. ties, Kong said.

The Chinese side is strongly opposed to the conference and demands the U.S. to stick to its commitment to China and cancel the conference in line with the "One China" policy and the principles of the three joint Sino-U.S. communiques, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Kong stressed that China is against any country which has diplomatic ties with China making official contacts or exchanges with Taiwan.

China asks all the countries which have diplomatic ties with China to abide by their commitments to China and properly handle the Taiwan issue so that China's relations with them will proceed smoothly, said Kong.
