China's Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng said here recently that the EU's decision to temporarily ban the import of animal productsfrom China is unscientific and unfair.

Shi made the remarks while meeting with Philip de Heer, the Dutch ambassador to China.

Speaking of the 50 containers of animal products held in Rotterdam, which the Dutch authorities decided to destroy, Shi said the Netherlands had no right to do that and those products should be returned to the Chinese companies concerned. The products are China's property until they are cleared by customs.

China hopes the Netherlands will handle the issue properly and it will continue to consult and negotiate with the EU on the issue.

De Heer said he would report to his government and inform the Chinese side as soon as possible.

China-EU trade volume reached 77.6 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 15 percent from the previous year.
