Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Tuesday called Afghan Defense Minister Mohammad Qasim Fahim to extend greeting after he survived an assassination attempt, the IRNA news agency reported.
On Monday, Fahim escaped unscathed after an explosive device went off close to a convoy carrying the defense minister in Afghanistan's eastern city of Jalalabad. At least four people were killed and about 50 injured in the incident.
A series of arrests of those suspected to be linked to the assassination attempt came following the explosion.
The ongoing Afghan situation will become stable with the establishment of security throughout the whole country in order to launch serious measures for the reconstruction and development of the war-shattered country, Kharazi was quoted as saying.
Iran, a neighbor to the west and southwest of Afghanistan with acommon border of 950 kilometers, has expressed support for Afghanistan's interim government of Hamid Karzai and vowed to pay 560 million U.S. dollars over five years for the reconstruction of the war-shattered neighbor while Washington has accused the IslamicRepublic of supporting Afghan local warlords to try to overthrow the Karzai regime.
