Chinese President Jiang Zemin's visit to Germany has so far achieved satisfactory results, said Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday.
President Jiang Zemin is paying a state visit to Germany at the invitation of German President Johnannes Rau. During his visit, Jiang talked with German President Rau, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and party leaders and met with former Chancellor Helmut Kohl and former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Zhang said.
The two sides exchanged wide-ranging and in-depth views on issues of common concern, and reached consensus on furthering all- round and friendly cooperative relations, she added.
Jiang also made speeches to the German Society for Foreign Affairs and German business circles. During his stay, China and Germany signed conventions concerning culture exchanges and higher education issues.
Zhang said Jiang would continue his visit to Saxony and Lower Saxony, taking in the Volkswagen Automobile Corporation. His Germany visit would help strengthen friendship, mutual trust and cooperation, and promote all-round Sino-German and Sino-European ties.
