Shan Wins Women's Sports Rifle Gold

Chinese shooter Shan Hong claimed women's sports rifle gold of the 2002 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup held Wednesday in Shanghai.

Chinese shooter Shan Hong claimed women's sports rifle gold of the 2002 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup held Wednesday in Shanghai.

Shan, who led the eight finalists with 585 points after the preliminary round, totaled 684.9 points to beat 50 shooters for the title.

Myung Joo Wee, who did an excellent job in the final with 100.2 points and 583 points in the preliminary round, came second with 683.2 points.

The bronze medal went to Leaya Leskiv of Ukraine who collected a winning total of 678.8 points, including 580 in the preliminary and 98.8 in the final.

The victory gave Shan Hong the berth, also the third for Chinese team from the World Cup, to the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
