Hu Jintao Meets Malaysian Supreme Head of State

Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao and Malaysian Supreme Head of State Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Wednesday expressed the wish to further enhance the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Chinese Vice President Meets Malaysian Supreme Head Of State
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao and Malaysian Supreme Head of State Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Wednesday expressed the wish to further enhance the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

During a meeting in the royal palace, Sirajuddin said Malaysia admires China's achievements in the economic development and its foreign policy of peace. He hoped both sides can take more concrete measures to strengthen mutual understanding and the traditional friendship of the people of the two countries and the mutual-benefit cooperation.

Hu Jintao, who is here on a three-day official visit to Malaysia, conveyed President Jiang Zemin's best regards to Sirajuddin and extended warm congratulations to Sirajuddin, who will ascend the throne this Thursday, on behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people.

The Chinese Vice-President also expressed admiration to Malaysia's efforts to stick to a road that suits its national conditions, which has brought in an all-round economic and social development and its ability to overcome the difficulties resulted from the Asian financial crisis in a short time.

Hu, who arrived here Tuesday afternoon, also expressed satisfaction with the sound development of bilateral relations. He hoped the two sides further increase exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology and tourism so as to serve better the interests of the people of the two countries and make greater contribution to the peace and stability in Asia and the world.

It is China's set policy to develop an all-round relations with Malaysia, Hu stressed, adding that China is willing to join hands with Malaysia to push forward the bilateral relations.

Also on Wednesday, the Chinese Vice-President delivered a speech at a meeting sponsored by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), elaborating China's development and its contribution to Asian prosperity and stability.

After the meeting, Hu and Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, who was also present at the meeting, witnessed the signing of an agreement between China Council for Promotion of International Trade and ASLI on the establishment of the China-Malaysia Joint Business Council.
