The executive committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) insisted Saturday that any peace summit must include a timetable for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian and Arab territories occupied in 1967.

In a statement following a meeting chaired by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in his freed West Bank town of Ramallah, the PLO said that the summit has to solve the conflict based on U.N. Security Council Resolution 242 and 338.

The statement called on the United States to reject the Israeli plan, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan for a permanent solution that aims to divide the Palestinian territories into cantons and isolated areas.

It was reported that during his upcoming visit to the United States, due to start on Sunday, Sharon will submit to Washington a fresh peace plan, which includes setting up buffer zone to separate Israel from the West Bank area with fences and ditches.

The PLO also said in a statement after the meeting that it is the time now for carrying out reforms in the Palestinian official and parliamentary institutions as well as establishing a democratic Palestinian society.
