A special investigation group sent by the central government is going all out to investigate the cause of an air crash that occurred Tuesday night in northeastern Liaoning Province and deals with matters arising from it.
Rescue workers have so far retrieved 62 bodies from the water. No one was alive.
The Ministry of Communications sent a number of vessels with divers to the sea area where the plane crashed to salvage plane debris.
The investigation group urged the salvage team to locate and get the black box as soon as possible and determine the cause of the crash.
Nearly 100 vessels are busy salvaging the plane debris. The empennage, a pushcart and pieces of equipment and facilities aboard the crashed plane have been found and picked up. Today's climate is conducive for the salvaging effort.
As the venue for the air crash is adjacent to the Dalian Harbor, the tight temporary control over the water space near the crash site was imposed and the relevant personnel are surveying the navigation channels and doing the related work so as to guard against any sea mishaps.
A China Northern Airlines MD-82 passenger plane, carrying 112 passengers and crew, plunged into Dalian Bay less than 10 km (6.215 miles) from the coast at around 21:40 Tuesday, shortly after the captain reported a fire in the cabin to the ground control center. Eight passengers were foreigners.
