Negotiations between the China Electronic Acoustic Equipment Association and six of the world's leading DVD technology developers are moving up to the core issue of royalties, China Daily reported Saturday.
A framework agreement on royalties reached last month between the Chinese association and the so-called 6C companies, Hitachi, JVC, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Time Warner and Toshiba calmed down the temper of both sides, although it did not determine the amountof royalties that should be paid, the key issue of the negotiations.
Latest proposals include that 6C companies should receive four percent of the price of a DVD player, based on a primary charging standard. And DVD players sold in the Chinese mainland market willget preferential treatment but the details are still under negotiation.
The 6C companies have started signing contracts with Chinese DVD manufacturers listed by the Chinese association, on the basis of the framework agreement reached on April 19.
More than 100 Chinese manufacturers of DVD players have authorized the association to negotiate on their behalf with foreign companies about royalties.
A series of detailed agreements is likely to be hammered out by the end of this month or early in June, the paper said.
