A group of armed men kidnapped four town councilors -- one of them a woman -- in Arauca state in northeastern Colombia, police said on Saturday.
The kidnapping took place in a rural area of Arauca, capital of the state bordering Venezuela, police said. Several armed men intercepted the councilors and took them towards an unknown direction.
The kidnapped were Maria Elizabeth Pamplona, Jorge Belisario Solarte, Guillermo R. Rivera and Donaldo Sanchez.
In the area there are activities of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the National Liberation Army (ELN), as well as paramilitaries of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).
The police refused to speculate on the organizers of the kidnapping.
