The United States has warned that Terrorists are planning an attack on a U.S. nuclear power plant on July 4, which falls on the celebration of independence day of the United States, The Washington Time reported on Monday.

The threat of the attack was obtained by U.S. intelligence agencies last week, the newspaper said, citing U.S. intelligence sources.

The threat was taken seriously by the United States although U.S. officials say it is not necessarily wholly reliable.

The aim of the threat by an unidentified terrorist group is Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear facility in Pennsylvania, or another nuclear facility in the state of elsewhere in the northeast.

The plot to attack the nuclear plant was initially scheduled for May 1, but later intelligence reports indicated that the attack was set to be carried on July 4, the paper said.

"TMI was one of the places named in the threat warning," the paper quoted one official as saying. "The problem is the date keeps changing."

Since September 11, the United States has issued several warnings to its people of possible terrorist attacks inside the country and has been working out emergency planning for the attack.
