A helicopter crashed off Orkney Islands, northern Scotland, on Friday and the rescue team has recovered a body.
The aircraft came down in the sea about 200 yards from the Brough of Birsay. The pilot was the only person on board the helicopter at the time of the crash, the BBC reported.
The wreckage was lying in 10 meters of water about 150 meters offshore
A major search operation -- involving a coast guard helicopter, lifeboats, a Royal Air Force helicopter and a number of fishing vessels -- was launched after the accident.
The body was taken ashore to the mainland by the Kirkwall lifeboat. The Brough of Birsay is a small tidal island off the north west coast of the mainland which is only accessible at low tide by a concrete causeway.
The Northern Lighthouse Board said the German-built Bolkow 105 Bond helicopter was contracted to carry out work on its behalf at the lighthouse.
The helicopter was ferrying rubbish from the lighthouse to the mainland at the time of the accident.
Conditions were described as very windy, and the sea was said to be choppy.
