Two goals in the first half led to a final 1-1 draw between Tunisia and Belgium in their nervous but lackluster match of the group H at the Korea-Japan 2002 World Cup finals Monday in Oita.

Belgium's striker Marc Wilmots sent a heading pass home in the 13th minute, giving his side a 1-0 lead.

However, Tunisia's defender Raouf Bouzaiane leveled the score in the 16th by striking home a brilliant free kick.

Just before the free kick, Tunisia had fired a long-range shot into the net, but the referee's whistle sounded one second earlierfor a Belgium's foul, which awarded the scoring free kick to Tunisia.

Tunisia played technically in the match and saw some scoring chances. The Belgians, who are obviously taller and stronger than their opponents, showed a typical European football with stamina and teamwork. But the low-speed offensive upset the Europeans' hope to defeat the so-called weakest rivals in the group.

Before the match, Belgium's coach Robert Waseige vowed to defeat Tunisia for three points to get a favorable position in thegroup. Belgium tied with World Cup co-hosts Japan 2-2 in the groupH on June 4 and will take on Russia on June 14. Tunisia lost to Russia 2-0 on June 5 and will play against Japan on June 14.
