PLA Military Band Invited to Celebrate SAR's Birthday

The Military Band of the People's Liberation Army of China has been invited to perform on the occasion of celebrating the fifth anniversary of the establishmentof the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Tuesday.

The Military Band of the People's Liberation Army of China has been invited to perform on the occasion of celebrating the fifth anniversary of the establishmentof the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Tuesday.

The performance, due on July 6 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, comprises an unprecedented array of 150 members.

They will perform a variety of the Military Band's most favorite masterpieces including ensemble performance of wind musicsuch as "National Anthem", "March of the Liberation Army", "Pearl of the Orient" and "Long Live the Great Motherland".

Besides, the renowned "Jin Hao Jiao" Jazz Band will play jazz music such as "A Song of Ideals" and "The Army and the People" in combination with vocal ensemble and vigorous dancing.

The grand marching will bring the show to its climax with the playing of well-known military music such as "People's Army Loyal to the Party", "Eternal Military Music" and "My Great Motherland".

In addition, 160 members from the People's Liberation Army Forces Hong Kong have been invited to take part in a parade and boxing show.

Affiliated to the General Politics Department of the People's Liberation Army, the Military Band is the sole state-level large wind band in China established in 1952.

For decades, it has been tasked with performing ceremonial music for the state and the army at the highest level.

It has also performed at the hand-over ceremony of Hong Kong and Macau, but not of such a grand scale.
