Russian State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov met Tuesday with President of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Li Tieying on bilateral ties and cultural exchange.

Seleznyov praised the exchanges between Russia and China as active and efficient, especially that between two parliaments.

He said he had visited China many times and knows a little about China's education and scientific development.

The academies of sciences of the two countries should also conduct friendly and active exchange and cooperation, said the speaker.

Li said the China-Russia good-neighborly treaty of friendship and cooperation, signed by presidents of their countries in 2001, laid a foundation for further development of friendly cooperation.

Seleznyov and Li agreed that the bilateral exchange and cooperation in the fields of humanism and social sciences constitute an important part of bilateral relations and are important for mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.
