The second Yangtze Bridge in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, passed a technical appraisal by the Ministry of Communications Saturday.

Chinese experts gave the project a score of 96.6, the highest ever for an ultra-large bridge built in China. It means that China has reached the world's top level in state-of-the-art bridge making.

Work on the bridge began in 1997 and it opened to traffic on March 26 last year. Its main span is the largest in China and third largest in the world.
