Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Tuesday that China believes that increasing cooperation between China and the United States, including cooperation in military field, will be conducive to the sound and comprehensive growth of bilateral ties.

Liu told a regular press conference that U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Peter Rodman is visiting China from Tuesday to Thursday.

Leaders from the Chinese army and the Foreign Ministry will meet with Rodman. He will also have talks with heads of relevant departments under the Chinese Ministry of National Defense. The two sides will exchange views on the relations between the two countries and the two armies as well as other issues of common concern, he said.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations, Liu said, the Chinese and U.S. armies have increased their mutual understanding and their relations have also been enhanced through frequent exchanges, adding that the exchanges are mutually beneficial.

It is usual to find differences between armies of the two countries but the key is that the two sides should have the commonaspiration to expand exchanges, increase mutual trust and reduce differences through dialogue based on equality, mutual respect andmutual benefits, he said.
