Chinese Naval Fleet Arrives in Brazil for Visit
A Chinese navy fleet, making its first voyage around the world, arrived at the harbor of Mucuripe, Ceara State, in northeastern Brazil,Tuesday for a four-day friendly visit.

The Chinese fleet, consisting of missile-launching destroyer Qingdao and supply-ship Taicang, has more than 500 sailors on board.
The Chinese vessels were greeted by Ceara harbor Captain Querroz Ferreira, other Brazilian navy officers and Chinese diplomats and residents in Brazil.
Commander of the fleet, Ding Yiping, told the press that the visit to Brazil is the first stop in the American continent and the fleet will also visit Ecuador and Peru.
Ding said the journey is aimed at promoting mutual understanding between the peoples and armed forces of the two countries and will contribute to further improving bilateral relations.
The Chinese fleet set sail from Qingdao on May 15 and in four months it will cover more than 30,000 nautical miles around the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans. The fleet has already called at ports in Singapore, Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece and Portugal during the past two months.
