Albanian President Alfred Moisiu decreed Monday the new government led by Prime Minister Fatos Nano.

The new coalition government comprises 19 ministers mainly from the ruling Socialist Party (SP) as well as SP's three allies, ATA news agency reported.

Ilir Meta, the former Prime Minister who resigned six months ago, was appointed deputy premier and foreign minister while Pandeli Majko takes the post of Defense Minister.

Moisiu's decree has already been submitted to the Parliament on Monday afternoon, the president's office said.

This is the second change of the Albanian cabinet in six months due to the conflict between different SP fractions, which almost split the party.

Former Premier Ilir Meta declared his resignation in January because SP Chairman Fatos Nano had criticized the government he led.

Under a decision passed on July 15 in the General Steering Committee of the SP, the party's chairman should also be the head of the government.
