15 Dead, Seven Missing in Northwest China Floods

Devastating floods have so far killed 15 people and left seven others missing in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local sources said Tuesday.

Devastating floods have so far killed 15 people and left seven others missing in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local sources said Tuesday.

The floods, caused by heavy rains from July 21 to 28, hit 15 counties and cities in seven prefectures.

Most of the water conservancy constructions in the Baicheng county, the most affected region, were damaged and residents are facing difficulty in obtaining clean water.

The local government has mobilized 150,000 people to strengthendisaster-relief efforts along the rivers that face flooding problems.
