China said Tuesday it will take measures to prevent dengue fever and the more dangerous hemorrhagic type of the tropical disease from entering the country.

A State General Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine notice released Tuesday urged travelers from Honduras to report to quarantine officials any symptoms of the disease, including fever, headache, pain throughout the body, rashes and reddening of the face, neck and chest.

Anyone who has such symptoms after entering China should seek medical treatment immediately, said the notice.

It also urged the elimination of mosquitoes on vehicles and containers from Honduras before they enter China, and ordered quarantine officials to check such cargo carefully.

Travelers going to Honduras can obtain protection advice from China's quarantine and health organizations.

A World Health Organization report issued on July 19 said an epidemic of dengue had broken out in Honduras. By June 29, 3,993 cases of dengue and 545 cases of the potentially lethal hemorrhagic dengue had been reported.
