Taiwan Statements Don't Affect US-China Policy

The United States responded on Sunday to Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's support for a referendum on independence by saying Washington's long-standing "one-China" policy had not changed.

The United States responded on Sunday to Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's support for a referendum on independence by saying Washington's long-standing "one-China" policy had not changed.

"Our policy with respect to China is well-known and long-standing and has not changed," US National Security Council spokesman Sean McCormack said. He declined to elaborate.
