Rebels Attack Refugee Settlement Camp in Northern Uganda
An unknown number of people were killed Monday morning by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in Achol Pii refugee settlement camp in Pader district, northern Uganda, Radio Uganda reported Monday evening.

A number of Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers and local defense unit members were also reported to have been killed in the attack, the report said.
Achol Pii refugee camp is home to about 30,000 Sudanese refugees and internally displaced Ugandans.
The UPDF 4th division public relations officer Paddy Ankunda confirmed the incident.
The camp commandant Esua Byeyendera said the attack took place at around 6 a.m. (0300 GMT).
Byeyendera said majority of the people ran away in disarray butmost found their way to Rackoko, 16 km away from the camp.
Meanwhile, Radio Uganda also reported that armed thugs suspected to be LRA rebels have shot and injured a UPDF soldier inthe northeastern Karamoja region Monday evening.
The UPDF soldier was injured when he was in a bus traveling in the region which was attacked by the rebels.
The two latest attacks took place when President Yoweri Museveni is currently in the north to ensure that the LRA is completely wiped out, the radio pointed out.
